Jack is a Business Development Director within the University of Melbourne’s Research, Innovation & Commercialisation team. In this role, Jack leads growth, development and management of a pipeline and portfolio of commercial opportunities that focus on behavioural experiments, big data & analytics, digital transformation, financial wellbeing, innovation and leadership.
Jack has more than 20 years experience in higher education and research, media, financial services, healthcare to technology in Australia, Asia, the UK and US.
In Australia, Jack has advised CSIRO, start-ups and not-for-profits on digital, product and market strategy. As Director of Technology Transfer and Innovation at the Eliminate Dengue Program at Monash University, Jack oversaw development of a multimedia learning platform and knowledge network to scale the program. Jack also co-founded The Conversation, Australia’s leading independent news and analysis website. The Conversation pioneered the “flipped” media model, where academic writers with deep expertise work with professional journalists to translate their research for the general public.
Previously in the United States, Jack led product strategy for the Yahoo! News 2008 Election site, worked as a digital strategy consultant for Fortune 500 companies and covered technology, business, politics, crime and corruption as a columnist and staff writer at The Miami Herald and The Tampa Tribune.
Jack holds an MBA in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurial Management from The Wharton School of Business and a bachelor’s in journalism and communications from The University of Florida.
